When I came into this class I had some film photography experience, but limited digital experience and no experience with photoshop. The one thing that I was apprehensive about with this class was having to use photoshop. I did get better over the course of this class but I still am not a big fan of it besides slightly editing a picture. Coming into this class I had a good grasp of aperture, shutter speed, and composition, so when it came to our first project i didn’t want to take pictures of the school. I wanted to take more creative pictures.
As this trimester went on I gained better understanding of ISO and some of the other settings on a digital camera that were not available on the film camera. In my first photo assignment I did not know about ISO so my pictures were all pretty dark since I was trying to capture the motion of my dog. By the end of the class I had figured out how to manipulate ISO, aperture, and shutter speed while in manual mode to get the results that I wanted.
When it came to photoshop I figured out how to do simple editing such as contrast, hue & saturation, and exposure, in the beginning of the trimester, but when it came to harder assignments such as the school of context I struggled to figure things out on my own and create a great picture.
My final product was okay, but I didn’t have the patience to deal with photoshop and really make it great. By the end of the class I began to learn how to use many of the tools in photoshop and I completed the multiple me assignment with too many problems.
Overall I enjoyed this class, especially taking pictures of nature. I will probably continue taking pictures in the future, maybe not professionally, but definitely for fun. I feel like I really matured as a photographer and I am glad that I took this class even if it was originally taken as a tech credit. Here is one of my favorite pictures that I took this class that I think really shows how much I have learned.
